Dr. Nicolas Christou, Lecturer in Statistics, awarded a 2008 Copenhaver Award for Innovation in Teaching with Technology

The UCLA Faculty Committee on Education Technology has awarded Dr. Nicolas Christou one of three 2008 Brian P. Copenhaver Awards for Innovation in Teaching with Technology. Dr. Christou has developed a impressive array of Java applets that provide interactive learning activities and hands-on simulations for learning probability and statistics. These online learning materials and simulation tools are part of the Statistics Online Computational Resource or SOCR (http://www.socr.ucla.edu). Activities and simulations in SOCR are used in teaching over 10 courses a year for over 500 students at UCLA. In addition, SOCR is referenced by over 20 digital libraries and educational web resources on the Internet and attracts formal and informal learners of statistics from around the world.
